At what age do toddlers usually sit with you while you read them a story? I think I can get Zach to sit still for maybe a 1/2 a page of Bob the Builder. I would like to instill reading in him, but I think he may be taking after his father in the no-reading dept.

I know Josh was tough at that age to get him to sit still for anything!
One thing I tried was to incorporate it into our bedtime routine. It didnt always work, but I found he was more relaxed then, then at other times where he just wanted to go go go.

My girls were about 16 months before they would sit and read a book. And even then it was a short one. Now, at the age of 2, my middle daughter can't get enough! And it has been that way for about 4-5 months. We love Sandra Boynton books, quick fun, and easy.

At lease I know he's not the only one! I guess I'll keep trying then.

Books are a huge part of Leanna's speech therapy. But they don't actually read all that much, it's more just pointing out pictures, getting her to say the names of things, improving recognition, etc. So the pages flip faster and she stays engaged. When my boys were little and would walk off and play while I was reading, I just kept reading and finished the book. I knew they were still hearing the words and paying attention even if they were also focused on something else. Give it time, he'll enjoy it more. And get some good chunky board books he can "read" all on his own. The kind that won't matter if they get chewed on a bit or beat up.

Boys are sometimes more interested in moving and exerting engery. Give him time and keep books available and I'm sure he'll be interested one day.

Becky,
Savannah isn't interested in reading either. I started really young (like 3-4 months) and she is just not into it. She will however take the book and try to bend all the pages now... but still not wanting me to read it to her.
And yet she will sit still for a Baby Einstein video. Go figure.

James didn't sit still for a whole book until he was about 2 ...then my mom sent him some Thomas books that had flaps on it for him to lift up and he loved them. I found some Rescue Heroes books at the Dollar Store with action stuff he could do in them and he loved reading them. Now he is really into books, his book case has more books then mine!!
